- As a hallmark of Hochrain’s style, a subtle hint of spiciness emerges gracefully on the finish. Adding depth and complexity to the overall tasting experience
This expansive vineyard stands proudly overlooking the Danube, nestled near the town of Wosendorf. While the lower terrains of Hochrain boast predominantly loess soil, the plot belonging to Veyder-Malberg is higher up the slope, resting upon a mixture of loess and decomposing paragneiss. With an average age of 35-40 years, the vines exude maturity and character.
Following the careful harvest, often conducted in two passes to meticulously avoid any botrytised fruit, the grapes undergo a rigorous sorting process on a vibrating table to eliminate any undesirable elements. Maceration continues for up to 24 hours, after which the grapes are delicately basket pressed for 6-8 hours.
Subsequently, the juice undergoes tank settling for up to 24 hours, allowing for controlled oxidation. Fermentation commences in tank, employing indigenous yeast for a truly authentic expression of the terroir. The wine then matures gracefully for approximately 6 months in seasoned 1500-liter barrels. Introducing sulfur additions in the spring following the vintage, ensuring the preservation of the wine’s integrity and character.
