Terre Di San Leonardo
This is the more junior expression of the great from Tenuta San Leonardo. It is one of the best value Bordeaux blends from Italy. This wine is a blend of 50% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot, and 10% carmenere. Fermented in concrete vats with wild yeast. Fermentation takes place over fifteen days, before 20% of the wine matures for six months in French oak barrels.
- This Bordeaux blend blends ripe plum and black cherry fruit flavours with dried herbs and a touch of spice
- Silky tannins compliment the mid-palate
- Lively acidity lifts the finish of this Terre Di San Leonardo
Pairs well with lamb ragu, aubergine Parmigiana, or a stuffed peppers.
In the late twentieth century, Marchese Carlo began to transform the centuries old Tenuta San Leonardo. Following a spell working at Tenuta San Guido with Mario Inciso della Rocchetta, creator of Sassicaia, he was inspired to see if the clay-limestone soils back home in Trentino were as well suited to Bordeaux varieties as they were in Bolgheri.
He planted his first Cabernet Sauvignon vines in 1978, adding to the pre-existing plantings of Merlot and Carmenere, and launched the first vintage of San Leonardo in 1982.
