Rolly Gassmann Riesling

Domaine Rolly Gassmann is now run by second-generation Pierre Gassmann. The Domaine encompasses 50 hectares of vineyards across Rorschwihr and Bergheim. They farm their vineyards using organic and biodynamic principles. The limestone soils on which they cultivate their vines generally produce wines which need more time to evolve in bottle.

Rolly Gassmann also start picking much later than everybody else, encouraging noble rot and favouring more concentrated wines. They are also famed for their remarkable collection of older vintages.

Rorchwihr lies on a fault line, which has created over 20 variations of limestone in its soils. As a result, this village in which Rolly Gassmann is based, has no Grand Crus, but rather small parcels of lieux-dits.

The Rolly Gassmann vineyards are around 70 different plots, all of which are hand-harvested and vinified separately. In the winery, Pierre presses gently, and opts for longer ferments with indigenous yeasts and extended lees ageing.
