This gorgeous bottle is one that we came across in Puglia on holiday! Always wanting to prove that wine does travel so long as it’s good, I was thrilled to be able to find it available to us in Ireland, and now I’m delighted to offer it to you!
It’s made from two types of Fiano, one local and unique to Puglia, the other being the same as the Fiano from the Amalfi coast. It has a round textured palate meaning that even without any oak (like this one) there is an ample body to the wine that is all about ripe fruit and sunshine.
Layers of orchard fruit and some larger citrus fruits on the nose lead to a palate that is fresh as well as round, with apples, pear, white peach and apricot, with a lovely greengage lift on the finish. It is dry and impressively structured, even with some ageing potential to boot.
Fiano is a variety that is very nearly getting its time in the sun. It is a beautiful grape variety from the south of Italy that makes elegant, round and supple wines (mostly like this one) without the use of oak barrel ageing. Flavours of orange blossom, chamomile, peaches and citrus juices make it interesting, food-worthy and simply delicious.
As you can imagine, we were taken-in by the label: Fiano goes famously well with seafood, especially crustaceans, and this is no exception!
