Sir Winston Churchill became one of Pol Roger’s most devoted admirers after a lunch at the British Embassy in Paris on November 12, 1945. The event, held shortly after the Conservatives lost office, introduced Churchill to Odette over a bottle of Pol Roger 1928, sparking a friendship that lasted for the rest of his life. His fondness for the was legendary – he famously drank it in pint-sized servings from a tankard.
In tribute to this connection, Pol Roger created the prestigious Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill in 1984, a rich and full-bodied Champagne reflecting his preference for bold, structured vintages.
