Descrizione
This Barolo is surely one of the most significant standard-bearers for the region of Piemonte and sums up so much of Barolo’s magic and appeal.
Full bodied, structured, tannic, complex and utterly delicious, with flavours of crushed rose buds, blackberry, damson and quince and notes of molasses, sweet spices and toasted hazelnut.
Pio Cesare are one of the most traditional of producers in Piemonte.
In fact, most Italian wineries up and down the peninsula are more modern than this family-run winery, based, almost impossibly (certainly unadvisedly) in the ancient and un-ergonomic town of Alba.
Nevertheless… these are phenomenal wines.
