Stunning Meursult from a superb wine maker. This is made from vines in six plots of the same vineyard taken from the higher slopes, meaning that freshness is maintained in the grapes, providing a balance to the rich style that Javillier seeks.
It is at least on a par with most 1er Cru Meursaults and is phenomenally rewarding. A nose that is open, expressive and gently aromatic with blossom, white flowers, ripe yellow and white fruits with integrated spice from the barrel ageing. The palate is round with gorgeous texture and balance that leads to a mineral finish. Powerful but elegant and clear, its proximity to Puligny Montrachet in vineyard location is wonderfully apparent.
Javillier is a really fanatic for the wines of Burgundy, but especially for his own. The family now own ten hectares of vineyard area that is located across 14 different appelations, including 1er Crus.
What is so telling in the wines that he makes is the individual characteristics of each site are totally obvious, while the generous and clean, open style of the house simultaneously, if slightly paradoxically, unifies them. They are an amazing collective all together – Bourgogne Blancs from different sites right to the top, each expressing wonderful versions of Chardonnay that are fascinating, captivating and utterly delicious.
