Marchesi di Barolo Ruvei Barbera d’Alba
Marchesi di Barolo was founded in 1807 by the Marchesi Carlo Tancredi Falletti di Barolo and his wife, Giulia Colbert. The couple had no children, so upon their deaths, they left the winery to the people of Barolo.
Today, the Marchesi di Barolo winery is owned by the Abbona family, who took over the winery in the 1950s. The family has continued to produce outstanding Barolo wines, and they have expanded the vineyard holdings to include vineyards in other parts of the Piedmont region.
Marchesi di Barolo Ruvei is made from 85% Barbera and 15% Nebbiolo grapes, grown in the hills surrounding the town of Alba on clay and limestone soils.
Ruvei is vivid ruby in colour with purple nuances. The wine has aromas of fresh blackberries and raspberry jam, with added notes of spice, vanilla and roasted hazelnuts.
This is a versatile wine that pairs well with a variety of dishes, including pasta with meat sauce, roasted or grilled meats, and aged cheeses.
