Marchesi di Barolo Coste di Rose Barolo
Marchesi di Barolo Coste di Rose Barolo
Marchesi di Barolo was founded in 1807 by the Marchesi Carlo Tancredi Falletti di Barolo and his wife, Giulia Colbert. The couple had no children, so upon their deaths, they left the winery to the people of Barolo.
Today, the Marchesi di Barolo winery is owned by the Abbona family, who took over the winery in the 1950s. The family has continued to produce outstanding Barolo wines, and they have expanded the vineyard holdings to include vineyards in other parts of the Piedmont region.
Coste di Rose is one of the Cru Storici vineyards of Marchesi di Barolo, one of the very best vineyards within the municipality of Barolo. This steep east facing slope gets plenty of sunlight hours, enabling the Nebbiolo grape to ripen perfectly. Interestingly, the soils have only a moderate limestone content compared to others in the commune, but with more quartz sand and fine silt. Grapes grown here take on a unique wild mint aroma.
This wine is has a ruby colour with garnet tinges. It has an intense aroma of roses, liquorice, spices, and aromatic herbs, especially wild mint. This is a particularly elegant, aromatic style of Barolo.
Pairs well with raw and cured meats, vegetarian flans, truffle, and various types of cheese.
