Marchesi Di Barolo Barolo Del Comune Di Barolo
Marchesi di Barolo was founded in 1807 by the Marchesi Carlo Tancredi Falletti di Barolo and his wife, Giulia Colbert. The couple had no children, so upon their deaths, they left the winery to the people of Barolo.
The Abbona family took over the winery in the 1950s. The family has continued to produce outstanding Barolo wines, and they have expanded the vineyard holdings to include vineyards in other parts of the Piedmont region.
The grapes used to make this Barolo come exclusively from the Cru Storici vineyards of Marchesi di Barolo. These vineyards represent the very best within the municipality of Barolo. Vines are on soil that is a mix of clay and limestone, with layers of grey sandstone, quartz sand and fine silt. The silt and sand helps produce Nebbiolo grapes with particularly floral and spicy organoleptic characters.
- This is garnet in colour with a ruby core
- It has intense aromas of both sweet and savoury spice, cinnamon, anise, tobacco and roses
- This is a particularly soft, elegant style of Barolo, with gentler tannins
Marchesi Di Barolo Barolo Del Comune Di Barolo pairs well with butter and sage pasta, sausage ravioli, lamb cutlets, game, and various types of cheese.
