The newest edition to the Macallan Red Collection. A now eight-part range of extremely rare, aged single malts which pay homage to the distilleries founder Alexander Reid. As well as the key moments within Macallan’s extraordinary history.
The significance of the colour red runs deep in . Tracing its origins back to Alexander Reid, the founder of the distillery in 1824. Reid, a farmer and teacher, bore the surname meaning ‘the red one’ in Scots, originally linked to red hair.
Laid down in November 1950 the Macallan Red 73 year old whisky has had an incredible seven decades to mature into an . The aroma is lively and remarkably complex, featuring a blend of aged oak, apricot preserves, delicate liquorice, and treacle pie. Layers of warm baked apple, nutmeg, and exotic fruit enhance its complexity.
- On the palate, it begins with a sweet, enveloping sensation, showcasing flavours of dates, sweet wood smoke, bittersweet toffee, and a touch of aromatic herbs
- There’s a fruity and salty character reminiscent of a refined Palo Cortado
- Extending the finish with soft tannins, gentle spice, treacle, and a persistent minerality
Each bottle is hand signed and numbered by the Macallan Lead Whisky Maker, Euan Kennedy and is present in a bespoke oak presentation box. This bottle is number 46. Releasing only 10 bottles of Macallan Red 73 year old whisky into the UK market.
