Joseph Mellot La Grande Chatelaine Sancerre, Loire Valley, France
Deeply rooted in the heart of Sancerre, the history of Joseph Mellot spans 500 years and several generations. With vineyard holdings spanning over 100 hectares in the Central Loire Valley, Catherine Corbeau-Mellot and her team are committed to expressing the extraordinary potential and individual nuances of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir from the different appellations.
Joseph Mellot La Grande Chatelaine Sancerre is produced using fruit from the oldest Sancerre vines of Joseph Mellot, and is aged for 20 months in oak to bring an extra dimension to the Sancerre, with more texture, integration and complexity. The wine displays a wonderful array of acacia, mango and coconut characters, in addition to the more typical citrus, gooseberry, green apple, lemongrass and chalkiness you would expect from a classic Sancerre. A wine with great structure and a long, silky finish.
A great match for a goats cheese salad, fleshy white fish, squash and red lentil stew, and asparagus.
