Jean-Jacques Girard Volnay Vieilles Vignes, Cote de Beaune, Burgundy
Jean-Jacques and Agnes Girard run the family estate with their sons Vincent and Francois. Over the past 20 years, Jean-Jacques has built the estate into one of the finest in Burgundy, and has acquired vineyards in all the top villages of the northern Cote de Beaune. Following the construction of a new winery, the whites and reds are now fermented and aged in separate cellars which can be maintained at different temperatures allowing for greater precision in the vinification and élevage.
The Pinot Noir grapes for the Jean-Jacques Girard Volnay Vieilles Vignes come from a plot of vines just above the village that was planted in 1959. A lovely, soft, aromatic wine with all the finesse and charm of Volnay. Delicious young, but also with potential to age gracefully over the course of ten years.
Pairs well with ham, game, tomato-based pasta dishes, rabbit, or a creamy cheese.
