Green Spot Chateau Montelena Whiskey
Green Spot Chateau Montelena Irish Whiskey is aged in a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks before being finished in French oak Zinfandel wine casks from the renowned Chateau Montelena winery in Napa Valley.
On the nose, you are greeted with a bouquet of ripe red berries, orchard fruits, and delicate floral notes, underscored by hints of vanilla and toasted oak. The palate reveals layers of succulent fruit, with pronounced flavours of sweet pear, red apple, and zesty citrus, complemented by subtle spiciness and a touch of dark chocolate.
Green Spot Chateau Montelena Irish Whiskies finish is long and satisfying, with the wine cask influence leaving a lingering impression of dried fruits and soft tannins.
- Originally produced by the Mitchell & Son family, a well-known Dublin wine merchant established in 1805, Green Spot began its journey as part of a unique tradition.
- The Mitchell family would buy pot still whiskey from John Jameson & Son distillery and age it in their own casks, which were used for maturing fortified wines like sherry and port.
The name “Green Spot” comes from the Mitchells’ practice of marking casks with a spot of coloured paint to indicate the age and quality of the whiskey inside. Green Spot indicated a 10-year-old whiskey, while other colours represented different ages.
