Ferraton Crozes-Hermitage Les Picheres, Northern Rhone, France
Domaine Ferraton began in 1946 and continues to produce an impressive array of wine. They were certified organic in 1998 and many of their wines are certified biodynamic.
The Crozes-Hermitage Les Picheres is part of the Lieux-Dit range from Ferraton, celebrating unique and forgotten parcels of vines in the Northern Rhone. The Les Picheres vineyard has limestone sub-soils with alluvial, stony topsoil. The wine is fermented in concrete vats over the course of 4 weeks, and then maturation lasts 8 to 10 months in barrel and a further 6 months in concrete.
The wine has a pronounced nose of ripe red berry fruit, and a rich palate with more dark fruit flavours emerging combined with savoury spice and a streak of minerality. A serious Crozes-Hermitage that could keep for 10 years.
