Esporao Reserva Red

Esporao was founded in 1973 by Jose Roquette and Joaquim Bandeira. Today Joao Roquette, son of co-founder Jose runs the vineyard. They are one of the in Portugal and the world.

Their base is in the Alentejo, but they also make wines from the Douro and Vinho Verde regions of Portugal. Their commitment to sustainability recently earned them a Green Michelin Star for the Herdade do Esporao restaurant.

Esporao Reserva Red is from vines of an average age of 20 years.

• Planted on soils with a granite and schist base, with a high proportion of loam and clay
• Blend of native varietals, with a small proportion of . Fermenting each varietal individually before blending
• The wine ages for 12 months in a mix of American and French oak, then a further 8 months in the bottle
• Generous aromas and flavours of blackberry and black cherry jam, black pepper, cloves, coffee, cigars and dark chocolate

Pairs well with grilled meats, mature cheeses and mushroom risotto.
