Descrizione
From the monumentally successful, Rolls Royce-like operation that is Guigal, this wine is sumptuous, elegant, balanced between richness and freshness and has a gorgeous array of flavours from chocolate to plum, damson and hints of tobacco leaf and mocha. It’s superbly classy, timelessly classic and it’s in a Magnum.
Made from 100% Syrah, this is a selection of the best grapes that Guigal farm themselves as well as their long-term growers, contracted to supply under the watchful eye of Guigal’s estate managers. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels – a mixture of new and used – to add finesse and polish to the wine, which in turn allows the flavours to develop in that classic, glossy black and red fruit character. It all adds up to quality and more quality. It really is a reassuring to know that there is genuine quality behind such a renowned label and that actually, in this case, in the Rhone, the name is a real hallmark of excellence. Try it. You’ll be convinced – plus, as this is a Magnum, you’ll get a lot of conviction.
Guigal make a very wide range of wines within the wider Rhone region and whether by design or by markets settling in this way, it is the extremes of their range that have cemented their reputation as one of the most consistent and successful producers in the region. The so-called entry-level Cotes du Rhone is an excellent wine and is one of the best-selling wines in the world. Their top three single site Côte Rotie wines, (La Turque, La Mouline and La Landonne, known collectively as the La-Las), have market values that hit four figures per bottle at auction.
