Descrizione
A delicious, lively Chianti that is made by one of the top estates in Montalcino. Balanced with flavours of plum, fig, red cherry and subtle notes of oak and Balsamic spice. Its vibrancy is met by a silky texture that comes from its southerly growing area, which also provides ripe tannins and a long finish. Wonderful wine with brilliantly considered alcohol.
Long before the world was blown away by Brunello, the vineyards at this property were making elegant and classic wines on the southern slopes of Montalcino. The wines were some of the first to be showed outside of the region in the early 1930s at the Wine Exhibition of Siena, where interest in the wines created something of a scandal as nobody had thought wines so far south of Chianti Classico could perform so well.
Originally brought into the Franceschi family’s ownership in 1890, there had been wine made at the site the 1700s. Sold in 1973 to the Cinzano family, their investment and focus on the high-quality potential in the winery and the whole Montalcino area, it is the largest organic farm in Tuscany and the third largest vineyard area in Montalcino.
Still run by the Cinzano family, Il Conte Francesco Marone Cinzano is the current chairman, this estate produces some of the best-loved, respected and value-for-money Brunellos available, and the rest of the wines in the portfolio follw suit. This is not Chianti Classico, but it behaves very much like it is: and, if it was, the price tag would rocket and the neighbours would definitely complain…
