Chateau Malartic Lagraviere Pessac-Leognan 2015, Bordeaux, France
Chateau Malartic-Lagraviere was bought by the Bonnie family at the end of 1996, and the wines have been steadily improving since. With plenty of investment, the vineyard area has grown from 19 to 53 hectares. Their red, which is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, has gained in intensity and structure over the years. It is now a very generous style and one of the finest Classed Growths in the region.
The 2015 vintage in Bordeaux was characterised by perfect weather conditions, enabling both high yields and exceptional quality. On tasting this in May 2023, we were really impressed by the aromatic and flavour intensity of this wine, yet also its approachability. The tannins have softened and it is just beginning to develop some savoury notes beneath the vibrant red fruit. A world-class example of left-bank Bordeaux for a very fair price.
