This brilliant, if youthful, Lynch Bages is full of dark fruit, blackcurrants and a little sweet spice on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied for Pauillac, with a gorgeous suave, polished mouthfeel, grippy tannins (as you’d expect at this age) and beautiful length. This vintage sees the blend use 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, which is high, especially as other vineyards suffered some frost damage toward the end of April.

“This is an excellent Lynch that starts off slowly and then drives at the end with dark fruit and hints of hazelnuts. Strong and focused tannins. A beautiful young wine.” 96/100 James Suckling, April 2018

“Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Lynch Bages sashays out of the glass with flamboyant scents of baked blackcurrants, blackberry preserves and mulberries plus touches of lavender, dark chocolate, star anise and unsmoked cigars. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has bags of class and finesse with firm, finely-grained tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and fragrant.” 94 Points, Wine Advocate

Château Lynch Bages nearly sells itself. Seriously good and immensely long-living, this is one of the finest red Bordeaux properties of the last four decades and with only one or two vintages that could ever be considered to be anything other than excellent, they have a serious pedigree to back up their reputation. Classified by the awful hand of fate as only a fifth growth in the 1855 classification, they have consistently proven their wine to be of much higher worth and it is widely agreed that if any reclassification were ever to be done again (it won’t), Lynch Bages would be very much the beneficiary of it.
