Look: this is a poor excuse of a tasting note from our perspective as we’d love to have a whole load of information for you as to why this is so wonderful, but we’re just a bit, well, really busy… sorry.

If you’re already here, you probably know that this Grand Cru Classé wine is spectacular and that the vintage is really wonderful too. So my work is almost not needed…

I’ll hand over to Parker:

“Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Boyd-Cantenac is sporting a lot of cedar on the nose, with attractive cassis, cherries and dried herbs scents. The palate is medium-bodied, with an abundance of wood.”

This third-growth was awarded 94 points James Suckling. It’s pretty special stuff.

Margaux is a very special village and though critically and commercially dominated by one or two of the largest names, the produce of smaller properties has become something of a specialist topic for wine-lovers who cannot keep up with the crazy prices being charged by the ‘village elders’. This leaves room for most of us to search for brilliant Châteaux like Angludet, Kirwan, Prieure Lichine and so on – though they are never available at a snip of a price, they are still Cru Classé (or at that quality) and significantly less that three figures a bottle… The stylistic similarities can vary greatly dependent on winemaking philosophy and site-specific nuance, but Margaux wines should be perfumed and expressive – they are referred to as the most elegant and instantly attractive of the Bordeaux communes that, if anything, should be a unifying target to which anyone of the village’s Châteaux would be happy to aspire.
