This Champgane is one of our best-kept secrets. Made from grapes that come exclusively from Premier Cru vineyards, the winemaking is traditionally quality-focussed the resultant style delivers gorgeously complex freshness and elegance. A pretty, floral and fruity nose leads to a bright, zingy and mineral palate with notes of brioche, citrus fruit and a delightful, creamy-textured finish.

It has been one of the most successful Champagnes in constant use in many of the best restaurants in the country. If you’ve dined in the finest places, the chances are that you’ve already had it!

Made from equal parts of Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay the vineyards planted by the villages of Hautvillers, Cumieres and Dizy. After fermentation and blending, the wines are aged for two years in the cellar before release, giving it the wonderful complexity that marks out its quality.

The town of Hautvilliers is in the middle of the Champagne region, and is interestingly the home of the abbey in which the Dominican monk Pérignan, (yep, Dom Pérignan) was the Cellar Master. And it was here that he first established the methods to priduce wine that… had bubbles! All the way back in 1681. Maison J.M. Gobillard is a small property run and owned by the family on 25 hectares vineyards in Hautvillers. They access about 75 hectares of vineyard production from neighbouring towns and growers through multiyear agreements. The house is situated a few metres away from Dom Pérignon’s grave and current owner Thierry Gobillard remarks that one of his first birthday present was a pair of “sécateurs”. Proper tradition!
