This rosé is one of the finest being made today – a truly scintillating wine that delivers freshness and complexity, leaving its drinkers simultaneously delighted and challenged as to just how this wine can be so good…
The colour seems to dazzle and draw you in to the nose of wild flowers, rose petals, red fruit and peach. The finish is creamy and even has notes of cinnamon… It is complex and rewarding, satisfying and approachable – a serious wine, but seriously enjoyable.
Grapes for this Rosé are sourced from the most experienced growers in the Champagne region, and comes from top villages such as Les Riceys, Ambonnay and Ay. It is made from a careful selection of grapes from their own vineyards; ageing is for 36 months and the blend uses around 20% reserve wines depending on vintage, with 5-6% red wine providing colour and aromatic lift in the final blend.
The winery was set up in 1851 by Charles-Camille Heidsieck whose goal was simple: to make the best Champagnes possible. The family-owned house is the smallest of the Grandes Marques, producing an eye-wateringly small volume of bottles each year. However, this size, dedication and quality has led them to ‘Sparkling Winemaker of the Year’ at the International Wine Challenge 16 times. Based in the city of Reims, Charles Heidsieck is one of the few houses that are able to use the fabulous chalk “crayères” cellars under the city, a perfect setting for the ageing of Champagne.
