Descrizione
This single-site Chardonnay comes from pebble-rich soils in a vineyard that has dramatically cool nights and warm, sunny days. The selection of the site by Nicolas Catena has seen the creation of some of the best Chardonnays that the New World has offered in recent years.
If you have ever had the sensational Catena Alta Chardonnay, then this is a wine for you! It is the threshold wine for serious whites and offers a glimpse of the best that the site and variety can offer, while retaining affordability in its price.
We love it!
The wine is aromatic and expressive with notes of ripe orchard fruit, some tropical influcences, balanced by minerality and fresh citrus notes.
It’s simply wonderful with food.
And 92 Points from James Suckling is a serious accolade.
The Tupungato vines are grown between 4000 and 5000 feet above sea level and are the best bits that go into the estate Chardonnay, while the very oldest sections go into the mightly Catena Alta. This is fermented traditionally and then aged on lees for up to 10 months; ageing is in 100% French oak, 35% of which are new. It’s a classy bottle, to say the least.
With a winemaking history that very few old world wineries possess, let alone in the new world, the Catena family have achieved international recognition through their pioneering winemaking and vineyard management. With a special relationship to the study of vines at high altitude, they are able to boast a vast range of single vineyard and single site wines across at least four different grape varieties.
Their quest for the best from their land isn’t a trivial or trendy fad to attract attention and critical acclaim; it really comes from a genuine belief and desire to find the latent properties that this set of terroirs can yield through the lens of each grape that is planted.
