Simply put, this is a piece of living history; the benchmark Manzanilla and a wine brand that has done so much good for the wines of this region. Made in the same winery by the same company since the 1790s, it is a real life wine explanation of “if it ain’t broke…”
Made in a way that certainly defies common financial sense, this is a beautiful result of a lengthy and cost-intensive vinification, fortification and aging process. Made almost in exactly the same way as Fino from Jerez, this is aged in the town of Sanlucar de Barrameda, further east of Jerez and closer to the Atlantic ocean. The influence on the wine is felt in the saline and mineral impact that the wine delivers, making it the perefct liquid foil to tapas such as smoked salted almonds. You have to serve this style of sherry cold, about 6 degrees should do it, but I often have it at 4. This is a full bottle format, but there is a half bottle one if you don’t think you’ll finish the full one in less than a few days…
Honestly, we could waste away the hours with just this and a bowl of nuts and a good book or good company. Or both.
