Thymiopoulos Xinomavro, Macedonia, Greece
The Thymiopoulos family has owned vineyards in Naoussa, Greece for several generations. Until recently, the family supplied other, larger wineries with their fruit. However, having graduated with a degree in oenology, Apostolos Thymiopoulos returned to the family vineyards to produce wines under the family name.
Apostolos has mastered the art of Greece’s native Xinomavro grape, producing fine wines with a resemblance to those of Barolo and Burgundy. This, their entry-level Xinomavro, combines the juicy red fruit and sweet violet florals reminiscent of Beaujolais with the silky tannin and acidity and beautiful peppery and herbal aromas of Nebbiolo.
A versatile and intriguing wine that is enjoyable on its own, but best served with lamb chops, gammon, baba ganoush or moussaka.
