Marchesi di Barolo Gavi del Comune di Gavi, Piedmont, Italy
The Marchesi di Barolo was founded in 1807 by the Marchesi Carlo Tancredi Falletti di Barolo and his wife, Giulia Colbert. The couple had no children, so upon their deaths, they left the winery to the people of Barolo.
Today, the Marchesi di Barolo winery is owned by the Abbona family, who took over the winery in the 1950s. The family has continued to produce outstanding Barolo wines, and they have expanded the vineyard holdings to include vineyards in other parts of the Piedmont region.
The Gavi di Gavi is both fermented and stored in inert vessels to preserve freshness and aromatics. It has beautiful aromas of fresh golden apple, pear, lemon, green almonds and chamomile flowers, with an elegant, mineral finish on the palate.
This wine is ideal with various shellfish and fish dishes, and pairs equally well with lighter risottos, salads, and lighter cheeses.
