Brothers Damon and Jono Koerner were the Australian Young Guns of Wine in 2019. Their travels around France and Italy has influenced a fresher, lighter style that they have brought back home with them to the Clare Valley.
A wine region increasingly well suited to Mediterranean grape varieties. The two brothers have also taken to experimenting with ceramic eggs for fermentation. The results are showstoppers to say the least.
The Vermentino grapes for Koerner Pigato were from vines on red clay and limestone terra rossa soils, on the northern slopes of Gullyview vineyard. Harvesting the grapes is relatively early to retain freshness and acidity. The juice spends 20 days on the skins. The wine left on its fine lees for 7 months before bottling. Bottling the is unrefined and unfiltered with minimal sulphur additions.
