Faiveley Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers, Burgundy, France
runs deep in the Faiveley family blood. Its values have remained unchanged over the last seven generations and are based on a deep attachment to the Bourgogne region, an instinctive passion for the terriers and an innate respect for man and his work.
The Cazetiers vineyard is widely regarded as one of the best 1er Cru vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin. It is one of the rare Tetes de Cuvee to not have been reclassified as a Grand Cru in the 1930s. Faiveley have owned half of the vineyard since 2013.
Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers 2014 is a really elegant expression of Gevrey-Chambertin, with wild strawberry, damson and cranberry taking centre stage, and gentle toastiness and white pepper in the background. The tannins are really fine-grained and silky, and the acidity perfectly integrated. A really smart enjoyable now but with the potential to develop further over the next decade.
Serve with duck breast in a blackcurrant sauce, or a rabbit and prune stew.
