Clos Cibonne Cuvee Tradition Cru Classe Cotes de Provence Rose
This 17th century estate is one of eighteen in Provence with Cru Classe status. They are proud custodians of the Tibouren grape, an ancient Mediterranean variety reputedly favoured by Julius Caesar, and transported over the Alps by Napoleon.
The vineyards of Clos Cibonne are organically farmed. Along with the famous Domaine Tempier, they are also among a rare group of Provence producers who are proud to cellar their rose wine and experiment with bottle age.
The Tibouren grape predominates in the elaboration of this cuvee, with a small proportion of Grenache added to provide some red fruit character. The wine undergoes natural fermentation and 12-18 months maturation in very large, very old foudres.
The wine is salmon-orange in colour. The nose is bewitching and warm, opening up with a wave of spice, before evolving into flavours of orange peel and fresh peach on the palate. There is a lovely texture and structure here, with good acidity and slight salinity, complementing the more savoury elements of the wine.
