Bernard Metrat Fleurie Vieilles Vignes La Roilette, Beaujolais, France
Bernard Metrat boasts 24 acres of vines, most of which are planted in the renowned La Roilette area of Fleurie, a prized part of the Cru Beaujolais.
The vineyards are at an elevation of around 280 to 300 metres above sea level and this, combined with red granite and layers of clay produces a wine full of mineral and character.
Metrat tends his vines as organically as possible, treating or intervening only wherever necessary. The wines are fermented in a traditional way and ageing takes place in used wooden barrels.
This beautiful Beaujolais has a splendid garnet colour and an inspiring nose of sweet red fruit with subtly sour cherry and black pepper. In the mouth, it is tangy, juicy and spicy and boasts a complex finish with hints of blackberry.
