Tenute Tomasella Friulano, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy
The beautiful Tenute Tomasella winery, established in 1965, borders Friuli and Veneto, between the DOC Friuli Grave and the DOC Piave. They are certified sustainable. Their Friulano – also known as Sauvignon Vert, but not to be confused with Sauvignon Blanc – is our favourite of their wines that we have tried, and is a grape variety that is indigenous to the local area.
Tenute Tomasella Friulano has a refined, subtle aroma of honey, elderberry, and acacia blossom, joined by flavours of succulent pear and apple on the palate. Two months of lees contact prior to bottling provides some texture and body to the wine, and a hint of blanched almond nuttiness on the finish.
A great pairing for an antipasti spread or soft cheeses.
