Little Pomona Brut De Poire Traditional Method
A truly special Perry that represents the very essence of English winemaking. Famously referred to by Napoleon as “the champagne of England,”. Perry is an iconic English drink that is crafted in a similar way to champagne, but from pears rather than grapes. This exceptional Perry is the first of its kind from Little Pomona, made using the traditional method.
The pears used are two French varieties – Long Bois and Antricotin. Each were grown locally at Throne Farm in the village of Woebley by the talented Stephen Ware. These pears were carefully pressed together and fermented using native orchard and pear yeasts. After fermentation, the Perry was sent to bottle for a second fermentation, where it underwent a year of lees aging. Finally, the bottles were hand disgorged a la volee, giving the final product its distinct and refined characteristics.
- Little Pomona Brut De Poire offers a delicate nose with notes of ripe pear, honey, and a touch of brioche. All complemented by floral hints of blossom.
- On the palate, it presents a luxurious and creamy mouthfeel, with the fine bubbles offering a pleasant, refreshing texture.
- The flavour profile is complex and layered, showcasing sweet ripe pear, honey, and floral elements, with added nuances of lime, thyme, and a faint trace of anise.
- The acidity is bright and crisp, providing balance to the rich, creamy mouthfeel, and offering a refreshing finish that invites another sip.
Perfect as an aperitif, Little Pomona Brut De Poire also pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes. Its bright acidity and elegant structure make it an ideal match for seafood, particularly simply cooked dishes like grilled fish or oysters. It also complements soft cheeses like brie or goat cheese, and is a fantastic choice alongside light, summery salads.
Whether enjoyed on its own or paired with food, this Perry is sure to elevate any occasion.
